Expectations: Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury

English version      Portuguese version

In a year marked by Golovkin versus Alvarez II, Joshua against Povetkin, Usyk knocking Bellew down, among so many others, one of the most awaited moments is approaching. At the next December 1, the confrontation between Wilder and Fury at Los Angeles would become one of the greatest fights of this amazing year the boxing granted to us.

But it is always about expectations. We can only be sure when they climb to into the ring. As usual, we survive by our expectations.

The 32-year old undefeated champion from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, holds a perfect professional record composed by 40 victories (39 KO). Owner of a very peculiar personality, Wilder's knockout power scary: his straight right punch is faster and precise than a speeding bullet.

His opponent, Tyson "Gypsy King", the 30-years-old English former WBO, WBA, IBF, and IBO world heavyweight champion. The man who dethroned Wladmir Klitschko (by points). He has been away from the rings since this bout (November, 2015), due failure at drug test. Fury returned to the rings at June, and after two victories, actually possess a record of 27 victories (17 KO).

How much of such intentions are made to promote the event? Perhaps most of it. Despite all this trash talk provide us funny moments, it is almost certain that, at the end of the fight, they will hold each other and look back to these moments and laugh. This is all part of the show. This scene is purposefully framed to awake in us the spirit of two tough guys challenging one another to prove their braveness.

Even though such scenical character, there is something at the stake. There is something real: two undefeated champions, two ambiguous personalities, both great boxers obsessively crazy for the glory.

This is boxing.
